A Girl Called Redemption

Sophie Neville won a Three Rock Writer's Residency on the island of Crete to work on 'The Girl Who Got Out of Zanzibar', a sequel to her award-winning novel 'The Man Who Got Out of Japan'. Her novel is linked to the true story of those who lived life to the full in the heady days leading up to the revolution of 1964.

This second African saga follows the adventures of a girl called Redemption who dreams of becoming a teacher but gains a job as a cook. As she learns to whip up exotic dishes for fabulous parties and picnics held under palm trees, Redemption discovers there is a number of ways to feed people wisdom. Her reputation as a chef proves vital as violence tears paradise apart and she goes in search of the man she loves.
